🔁 WHM Root: How to Restore a cPanel Backup Wizard Backup

Backups created through the cPanel Backup Wizard allow users to back up website files, databases, and configurations.
These backups are especially useful when migrating to a new server or restoring lost data.
If you have WHM access, you can restore these backups directly from the root level to recover an entire cPanel account easily.

This guide explains step by step how to restore a .tar.gz backup file created via the cPanel Backup Wizard using WHM root access.

📦 Creating and Downloading a Backup from cPanel

Before restoring, you first need to generate a full backup in cPanel.
Once the backup is created, you can log into WHM as root to upload and restore it.
Follow these steps:

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel account.
Step 2: Open the Backup Wizard.
Step 3: Click Back Up to proceed.
Step 4: Choose Full Backup.
Step 5: Click Generate Backup to start the process.

🔄 Restoring a Backup via WHM

To restore the downloaded backup, you must log into WHM with root privileges.
If you’re on shared hosting and don’t have root access, contact your hosting provider for help.
If you manage your own cPanel server, follow these steps:

Once logged in, search for Transfer or Restore a cPanel Account in the WHM search bar.
Then, click the option and choose Upload a file to restore to upload your backup file.

You can restore a backup taken with the cPanel backup wizard in minutes using WHM root access. This method is particularly effective for server migration processes or data recovery needs.
