🚀 How to Automatically Upgrade MariaDB via Panel.ini Editor in Plesk Panel (2025 Guide)

For Plesk Panel users, upgrading the MariaDB version without using manual terminal commands is now easier than ever.
With the help of the Panel.ini Editor extension, you can enable automatic MariaDB upgrades directly from the Plesk interface.
This guide walks you through the step-by-step process.

🧩 Step 1: Install the Panel.ini Editor Extension

Log in to your Plesk Panel.
From the left sidebar, navigate to Extensions.
In the top-right search bar, type Panel.ini Editor, find the extension, and click Install to complete the installation.

🛠️ Step 2: Edit the Configuration Using Panel.ini Editor

Once the installation is complete, go back to the main Plesk dashboard and search again for Panel.ini Editor.
Click on it, and under the top menu, open the Editor tab.
In the blank configuration area, add the following line:
Code:
[databaseManagement]
features.canBeUpgraded = 1
This code enables MariaDB upgrades directly from the Plesk GUI.

⚙️ Step 3: Upgrade the MariaDB Version

After saving the Panel.ini configuration, you can now initiate the MariaDB upgrade through the panel:
  1. Go to Tools & Settings from the left sidebar.
  2. Click on Database Servers.
  3. You will see your current MariaDB version listed — from here, you can start the upgrade process to the latest supported version.

💡 Tip: It’s highly recommended to take a full system backup before starting the upgrade, as the process may affect your websites’ database connections.
